What a lovely card to kick off January 2026, suggesting a month (and potentially whole year) ahead filled with potential – the potential for both emotional and material fulfillment. This is a card that symbolises satisfaction of one's achievements and even recognition of them in the world with a level of fame or notoriety attached. Alternatively, you may meet one or more influential, notable people who really affect you in a positive way, leading to you changing something significant about your life that leads to that sense of achievement. Or perhaps this is your personal goal for January (or for all of 2026). Whichever it is, go for it, do what feels good, make the most of every suitable opportunity, and enjoy every moment of it.

When the Emperor turns up, the overarching focus is building last foundations in the material world and/or in a way that is tangible. We are concerned about making sure we are safe and secure and that those we love are also safe and secure. Financial bonuses or struggles may be highlighted as you navigate the monetary landscape of your life. Career and home alterations are possible at this time, too, especially if they are directly affecting your long-lasting security and future prospects. Lastly, we may be working through paternal legacy issues - those traits, strengths, and challenges we inherited from our fathers before us - and we will be looking to either build on these, or break unhelpful patterns.

Hope lies in our descendants and hope is around the corner. Love is all around if you count your blessings and give gratitude every day. Remember this in April if and when things get tough. Our children - humanity's children - are the portents of a golden age to come and a sign things are always getting, and will get, better. Our grandchildren are our stars and what we fight for. Spend time with the young (with the future) in April; be inspired by what inspires them — they see a future you never did. Whatever troubles you find yourself in, hang in there and have faith — the stars' light is about to shine on you, and everything's going to be just fine.

So first of all please read the post for January because the same guidance applies; however, Imbolc and the Aquarian energy of February contribute an element of real magic into the equation, so add some epiphanies, mysticism, and spell working into the Magician's practical energy, and you have the power to make some real miracles manifest, and the solid foundation to start a new chapter for yourself in any way you wish.

The Magician symbolises savvy, intellect, and the ability to combine the two. He can be a little unscrupulous, but on the positive side he is a character who knows how to use the tools and skills he has learnt (and been given) in order to manifest (or manipulate) events to his liking. And so, we have a calling to do the same in January (although hopefully without the unscrupulous bit – at least not unnecessarily so).

Self employment or the ability to be your own boss in some way (even if through employment) is positively indicated, and if you've been procrastinating in making this happen for yourself, but want to, now is the month to go for it. Your skills are many – do not be afraid to use them. Trust your knowing and your abilities this month. If you get offered a higher position in any area of your life, give serious consideration to taking it. If you are offered a chance to learn something, you may want to consider that, too.

If you are spiritually minded in your career and / or life, now is the time to be practical about it and bring it to ground. Do be careful who you surround yourself with and keep your boundaries intact – this is very much a month for doing things your way, and those who may want to break your boundaries need to be sent to the back of the queue.

You have the ability and potential to be the "showman" in January – the stage is yours.

Lastly, it's a great month for initiative, inspiration, inspiring others, and getting ideas off the ground, so don't dilly-dally – be aware of your environment, exercise a bit of caution, but go for it.

Home, foundations, structure, family, and good times are the keywords for December, and the theme of your life may well centre along these lines as the importance of celebrations, family, and stability is both felt and desired. You may even experience an urgent push to create it in your life as soon as possible, as if everything depends on it. Whether it does or doesn't, enjoy the beautiful togetherness of family and friends and the hearth that warms you. The times ahead in January will follow on from this theme and will likely go more smoothly if we do the best we can to make the 4 of Wands a reality now.
